Godfrey Simmons came to Ithaca to teach at Cornell University, where he met his wife, Sarah Chalmers. After moving to New York City then returning to Ithaca several years later, they founded Civic Ensemble, a theater group for the community, in 2012 with fellow artists Jennifer Herzog. They continue their work with Civic Ensemble today, providing an affordable and welcoming space for artists and locals alike.
