Joe Freedman (Danby First)
RELEVANT PERSONAL INFORMATION: I am married to Virginia (Hart) Freedman. We have 4 children. I have lived in Danby for 12 years and Ithaca (South Hill) for over 21 years.I graduated from Saint JohnFisherCollege in RochesterNew York with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. My career has spanned 40 years. I was a Corporate Auditor for 14 years and an Accounting Supervisor and Manager for 20 years.  I am semi-retired and currently a Senior Regulatory Consultant. I served 4 years in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. I am a decorated Viet Nam Veteran. For the last 28 years I have served as a member of the Executive Committee of Ithaca American Legion Post 221. I am also currently the Post Finance Officer.
WHY ARE YOU RUNNING FOR OFFICE? I believe its time for a change. The current Supervisor has become complacent. The town should run on behalf of the people since the residents own the town. That means transparency and interactive government (town board and the people in tandem).
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE TO TACKLE IN THE POSITION YOU ARE SEEKING? The learning curve associated with a new position and dealing with a 2014 budget that would be passed before I take office.

Clerk

Pamela Goddard (Democratic)
RELEVANT PERSONAL INFORMATION: I have served as Danby Town Clerk since 2010. Prior to serving as Town Clerk I was involved with the Danby Community Council and served as an election inspector for several years. I have been an educator in local history and a journalist writing for local newspapers and magazines.
WHY ARE YOU RUNNING FOR OFFICE?: I am running for re-election to continue the important work of ensuring that Town laws, meeting minutes, and other pertinent information are made available to the public in a timely manner. I enjoy assisting people with the information, licenses, and help they need.  I am a team player, interested in building community, and I’m ready to do my part to help bring Danby through challenges and into the future.
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE TO TACKLE IN THE POSITION YOU ARE SEEKING?: Town Clerks have  a wide range of responsibilities, from tax collection to minute taking and records management. Here in Danby, we’ve made good progress in streamlining these operations. There is always more we can do to improve service and access to government.

Councilperson (Vote for 2)

Rebecca Brenner (Democratic)
RELEVANT PERSONAL INFORMATION: I hold a Masters degree in Public Administration with a focus in environmental systems science. My professional experience includes a decade of environmental consulting for complex energy projects with roles in both socioeconomic analysis and project management. Currently, I am an adjunct professor in IthacaCollege’s Department of Environmental Studies and Sciences. Also presently, the Danby Planning Board hired me to manage the revision of Danby’s Comprehensive Plan. In Ithaca, I have served as executive board member of the Ithaca Moms Club and as the Treasurer for a cooperative nursery school (CNS).
WHY ARE YOU RUNNING FOR OFFICE?: As a mom of three and as an environmental scientist there are two things that made me run – environmental protection and youth services. As an environmental scientist, I stand firmly against hydrofracking. It is far too risky for our water. Also, the town is working on an aquifer protection plan – this is something I do professionally. I have over a decade of experience writing complex environmental assessments for local, state and federal agencies.  I feel really strongly about protecting our water and our natural and historic resources. I do not support industrial uses that could contaminate our water and air and put pressure on our roads.
Two members of the current board are leaving; as such no one on the board will have school-aged children, I want to be sure that youth services and family’s interests are protected. I am the only one running with school-aged children. I also strongly support the development of the community park. I believe we should maintain the beautiful, healthy, rural character of Danby.
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE TO TACKLE IN THE POSITION YOU ARE SEEKING?: As a member of the town board I believe it is important to hear all points of view objectively and make the best decision that supports the best interests of the town. This is the perspective I strive for and will hold.
